General Causation
Whether the substance or product is capable of causing the injury alleged.
A population-level question resolved through epidemiology, toxicology, and mechanistic evidence, and typically litigated once for the whole inventory. A defence win on general causation ends the litigation; a plaintiff win moves the fight to each claimant's individual proof.
