Class Action Fairness Act (CAFA)

The 2005 statute expanding federal jurisdiction over class actions.

CAFA confers federal jurisdiction where the aggregate amount in controversy exceeds five million dollars, the proposed class has at least one hundred members, and minimal diversity exists. It also imposes settlement notice obligations to state and federal officials and constrains coupon settlements.
