Class Certification
The court order permitting a case to proceed on behalf of a class.
Certification is the pivot point of class litigation: it transforms an individual claim into aggregate exposure and, in practice, frequently determines whether a case settles. Interlocutory appeal of certification decisions is available by permission under Rule 23(f).
