Statute of Repose

An absolute outer deadline running from the defendant's conduct rather than the plaintiff's injury.

Unlike a limitations period, repose is not extended by delayed discovery and can extinguish a claim before the injury manifests. It is a decisive defence in long-latency exposure litigation.
